Eyebrow Threading: How It Works and How to Care for Your Brows

Eyebrow threading is what Tally Brow Studio was built on. Since 2013 our specialists have shaped brows for thousands of Tallahassee clients using nothing but a twisted strand of cotton thread. There's no wax and no chemicals, just clean, defined brows that suit your face, usually in under 15 minutes.

How eyebrow threading works

Your specialist twists a thin cotton thread into a loop and rolls it along the edge of your brow. As the twist moves, it catches short rows of hair and lifts them out from the root. Because they can work on a few hairs at a time, they can follow your natural arch closely and clean up strays without thinning the brow.

Before starting, your specialist will ask how full you like your brows and whether you want a change in shape or just a clean-up. Speak up. A little or a lot can be removed, and it is much easier to take more than to wait for hair to grow back.

Threading vs. waxing for brows

Waxing removes a whole area at once and can lift a thin layer of skin with it. That is fine for legs or arms, but on the delicate skin around the eyes it can leave redness, and it isn't recommended if you use retinol, Accutane or other strong skincare. Threading only touches the hair, so for most people it is the gentler and more precise choice for brows and the rest of the face.

We offer both, so if you aren't sure which is right for you, ask when you come in.

Full-face threading

Threading isn't just for brows. We thread the upper and lower lip, chin, sides of the face, forehead, neck and nose. Our Full Face Special covers brows, lips, chin, sides and forehead in one visit of about 30 to 45 minutes, and it is the best value if you thread more than one area regularly.

Eyebrow threading aftercare

Some redness is normal and usually fades within a few hours. For the rest of the day, keep heavy makeup, direct sun, saunas and steam rooms away from the threaded area, and try not to touch it. Aloe vera gel soothes any irritation. If you're threading before an event or photos, come in two or three days ahead so your skin has time to settle.

Questions

Eyebrow Threading FAQ

Does eyebrow threading hurt?

It feels like a quick series of light plucks. Most first-timers find it more comfortable than they expected and less painful than waxing, and it gets easier with regular visits.

How long does eyebrow threading take?

Eyebrows take about 10 to 15 minutes. A full-face threading takes about 30 to 45 minutes.

How long does eyebrow threading last?

Most clients come back every three to four weeks, depending on how fast their hair grows. Hair often grows back finer with regular threading.

How should I prepare for threading?

No preparation is needed. Come with clean skin and skip heavy makeup on the brows if you can. If you are growing your brows out, let your specialist know so they only remove what is needed.

What should I do after threading?

Some redness is normal and usually fades within a few hours. For the rest of the day, avoid heavy makeup, direct sun, saunas and steam rooms on the threaded area. Aloe vera gel can soothe any irritation.

Do I need an appointment for eyebrow threading?

No. Walk-ins are welcome at all three Tallahassee studios during open hours.
